Are you a nespresso fan? Then you likely won’t want to read this 😅🤦🏼‍♀️- but you should!
Did you know that nespresso capsules are made from aluminum, which if it accumulates in our brain has been linked to the development of Alzheimer’s? 🤢
Putting steaming hot water through these capsules will cause micro levels to absorb into your coffee!
What about biodegradable pods you may ask? Sadly despite being better for the environment, studies suggest that they degrade for humans toxic compounds (and leach them into the coffee), messing with our hormones, in particular estrogen, which is linked to issues like PMS, endometriosis, perimenopause havoc, prostate concerns and more. Meh 🤪.
What’s the solution? Stainless steel and glass machines, like the one in the video, more high-end ones as seen in most cafés, or a glass plunger.

Have you been told (or read on Dr. Google) one should give up coffee for health reasons? Not so fast.
While overconsuming coffee, having it too late in the day, or brewing it in aluminum or plastic machines indeed are issues of concern, having one or a few cups of good quality coffee, away from food and in the first half of the day, for most people is absolutely ok, and likely even beneficial!
Research suggests coffee can help prevent Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and more. It’s got plenty of wonderful antioxidants, and if consumed before exercise and without food, helps burn (belly) fat!
A few simple tricks to make sure you get the most of your coffee without harm to your health:
👉🏻 Avoid having it with food, as it blocks the absorption of important minerals like iron, zinc and calcium.
👉🏻 Avoid having any past 2pm, if you have trouble with sleep you may even want to pull it back to a noon or even 10am curfew.
👉🏻 If you enjoy intermittent fasting and like to have coffee instead of breakfast, make sure to track your stress response (via a cortisol saliva test, or tools like @ouraring or a continuous blood glucose monitor @freestylediabetes ), and if coffee on an empty stomach makes your stress levels (and glucose) rise too high, you may consider having breakfast instead! Or experiment with adding full fat milk (or a sugar free nut milk alternative) and collagen powder into it and see what effect that has. In my case adding cashew or hazelnut milk while extending my fast until brunch/noon keeps my blood sugar (and cortisol) nice and steady, while a black coffee or coconut milk that has little protein spikes them! You may also want to experiment with how my any cups per day - and what your biochemistry does as a result. I find testing and tracking better than guessing.
👉🏻 Avoid aluminum (nespresso) or plastic machines and cups. They absorb into the coffee and mess with our cells, hormones and contribute to cancer! 🤢
👉🏻 You may genetically be less able to tolerate coffee (via a SNP called CYP1a1) and get wired just after 1 cup!

BUT your latest blood work say that your iron is fine?
Iron in blood fluctuates depending on what you’ve eaten that day, a better measure is ferritin, which is the iron storage.
Your GP said that’s fine too, but you have all the symptoms described? In order for iron to do its thing properly (transport oxygen to our cells), ferritin should be between 70-80. Most lab reference ranges say anything between 20-300 is ok! This means you may have a result of 25, ie cells struggling with less oxygen than they need, but you are told ‘you are fine’.
Same goes for levels above 100- they can contribute to oxidative stress and inflammation - not a good thing neither as that contributes to cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurodegeneration, ageing and more.
I like to test my levels 2x/ year to make sure my cells get the optimal amount of oxygen ❤️. How about you?
